It allows modern businesses, to effectively manage workflows in a collaborative environment. There are lot many CMS software available however, it is the best for modern businesses to get their content management systems customized, and tailored to suit their needs.

The Top 5 Priority Features a Modern Business Should Look for in CMS Software Include:

  1. CMS Should Be Secure:

One of the most important features of a modern CMS is that it should be secure. It is very commonplace with open source software especially so when we are referring to CMS; that, if the software developer does not enforce proper quality control measures, it might lead to lack of security and keeping content confidential becomes difficult. Businesses should always order a security audit before implementing CMS.

  1. CMS Should Be Customizable:

As discussed before, a modern content management system should have scope for customization. It should be modifiable to suit the precise requirements and the evolving needs of your business. It should also allow full control to activate, hide and deactivate features as required.

  1. CMS Should Provide Complete Control Over Content:

This is the most important feature of any modern CMS.  Modern CMS should provide the user with complete control over content. Some features of a modern content management system include quick and effortless editing and publishing of content.

How much does it cost to build a website like Airbnb?

How much does it cost to build a website like Airbnb?

Posted by: Chirag Shivalker | Posted on: May 26th, 2015 | Posted in: Web Development

Airbnb are the pioneers to the trend of sharing economy and have their presence across 34,000 cities and 190 countries. A trusted community marketplace with multiple functionalities, where one can list, discover, and book accommodations, online or through a smart phone or tablet. It works as one of the most convenient options to monetize their extra space and showcase it to an audience of millions.

A website like Airbnb; is just a part of the product, if you desire to offer services. The key element is the inventory of pictures, descriptions, providing customer support and much more. It would be one of those big portals with Omni functionalities which certainly would need a team of skilled thought leaders, developers and designers.

Cost of designing and developing a state of the art website like Airbnb, will certainly attract expenses of coding + designing + user acquisition. And trust me this certainly will range in millions if not a billion.

Website design and development companies have mushroomed and so you are likely to receive quotes varying from $3 per hour from a company based out of a tier 3 country and $150 per hour from a company based out of a tier 1 country. However; you are a professional who understands that website design and development process revolves around price, which is a variable largely affected by various factors.

Website Development Costs Vary Depending on:

Geographic Location of Project Execution

In-House: In-house Development Team $120 – $150 per hour

Outsourcing:

Near-Shoring $70 – $100 per hour

Offshore Development $30 – $50 per hour

Kind of Website Development

Ready to deploy solutions available in the market pose great challenges when it comes to flexibility. This compels you to develop a custom website solution from scratch. You are already inspired by the idea of Airbnb – why do you want to use a ready to deploy solution? Instead get yourself build a custom solution, where you can add up your own flavors and elements.

We at CrispyCodes provide Website Design and Development solutions that encompass stages of Design, Backend Technology, Payment Gateways, Front End Implementations and many more.

Technology Stack

I am of the opinion that instead of thinking about the cost of building a website like Airbnb as a first step, one should think of selecting the appropriate Technology stack in the initial stage. This aspect is capable of turning the table of your budget, scalability and development time.

CrispyCodes provides flexible solutions for next generation staffing needs & profitability through Microsoft .NET Application Development, Web Designing, E-commerce Portal Development, Content Management Systems (CMS) & Custom Application Developments, at competitive prices.

Website Design and Development Team

Develop your website in house or you can outsource it; but mind well, the ideas and technical competencies of a development team plays a vital role which certainly will reflect in the architecture to the UI.

Crispy Code’s 22 years’ of experience is “priceless”, but we know that it only gets better if shared and utilized. So what you pay as cost-to-build-a-website like Airbnb, is for the value addition that we provide in form of highly scalable designs, thriving graphics & layouts with features such as quick loading and user friendly navigation.

Content and Curation

What kind of content you populate on your site and how do you curate it, is the next most important thing on your task list. On acquiring the Content – developing a CMS based website is not that tough – where coding covers only a small portion of the execution. But do you have a team competent enough to manage these activities appropriately?

Airbnb is approaching the mark of one million guests per night, which also means that more than 800,000 people will stay in an Airbnb on any given night this summer. Airbnb has gained popularity due to its user acquisition strategy – a masterpiece in itself.

It will be unfair to evaluate the dollar value in form of 30 man days or 100 man days – the efforts, innovations & synergies that we have developed for delivering web design & development solutions.

Choosing the Right CMS – A Modern Business Requirement

Choosing the Right CMS – A Modern Business Requirement

In this technology driven business environment; content is crucial! In other words, if you want to connect, interact with and attract your clients, then you need to deliver fresh and innovative content on a regular basis.

Website and blog are both very important platforms through which you can deliver content. In fact, posting content that generates interest and brings the potential clients to your website is actually the best marketing tool or strategy you can ever have.

But managing a business site is not an easy task; it is not like running a personal blog where you can muse, rant and ramble about anything you feel like. Here it is important to be consistent, provide reliable content and do that in a professional manner – and it is there when a robust content management system (CMS) comes to your rescue.

What will you ensure rather consider before you choose a content management system? Read on to know.

  1. Trouble-free Administration

The admin dashboard is a critical part of any CMS and therefore it should be easy-to-understand and use. The overall functionality need to be free from complexities so that it is easy to manage all the tasks necessary for content production. This includes:

Role management for editors, contributors and others.

Notifications to files.

Management of multiple sites if required.

Addition of functionality using modules and plugins.

Monitoring scheduled content and related assets.

Moreover, it much easier to handle the content workflow using a single piece of software giving everyone the proper access according to the level of their responsibility. This will streamline the content production and mitigate the complexities.

  1. Excellent Publishing Tools

Robust publishing tools are the backbone of any CMS for modern business; very much similar to the content you publish to interact with your strategic customers and audience. A good CMS needs to adapt to the different types of content you require to publish – right from the short news items to lengthy articles, along with integrating a publication workflow.

A CMS which can handle SEO, tag content, images and other multimedia from within the same publishing interface is the best choice.

  1. Incorporated SEO Tools

Google is known for constantly altering its search algorithms. And this makes the search engine optimization a herculean task.

A robust CMS necessarily should have a series of in-built SEO tools to help you create URLs that can be easy to use for both readers and search engines. The CMS will also help you to add keywords and tags, format the headings according to your requirements, as well as ensure that you have all the alt tags for images. Apart from this, it checks whether you adhere to the accessibility guidelines and evade duplicate content.

  1. Social Media Integration

Social media sites have attained a cult-status. And that is why any modern CMS must be compatible with the social media tools. This implies that the CMS should make it easy to add social media sharing buttons for some of the critical sites to any page or piece of content in order to push people to share the content with their audiences.

All in all, a CMS for modern business can only be a success when it has some of the above listed features.

Which One To Opt— Static or Dynamic?

Which One To Opt— Static or Dynamic?

Posted by: Rahul Vyas | Posted on: July 8th, 2013 | Posted in: Web Design and Development Guide

An entrepreneur hailing from a non-IT background is sure to get into a dilemma as in what should be the nature of the website static or dynamic? It usually puts the business owner into predicament.

Before deciding actually, you should know what is the difference between dynamic website and static website? It is important to understand the difference. Following are few differences between the two:

A static website is sure to have less number of pages to design, whereas a dynamic website caters to the needs of a big project with more number of pages.

There will be little functionality in static website, as compared to dynamic website which will have complex and more number of functions.

Static design and development has no payment gateways or ecommerce. On the other hand dynamic website always has payment gateways and ecommerce.

Designing a static website will always cost you cheaper as compared to designing a dynamic website.

The time taken to create a static website is less as compared to a dynamic website — with complex and multiple needs, requirements and functionalities.

Responsive Site Design – 4 Tips to Create an Exemplary Site…!!!

Posted by: Chirag Shivalker | Posted on: February 12th, 2015 | Posted in: Web Design and Development Guide

What once appeared to be a far-fetched imagination of a sci-fi writer has now translated into reality! Take phones – they are a classic example of technology which has gone beyond our comprehensions. It has evolved dramatically to become “Smartphones”. You can perform a multitude of activities, apart from talking to your loved ones; you also can watch videos, listen to your favorite music tracks and even surf internet. You are empowered to get a minute-to-minute update of what’s happening in the world; thanks to the Smart technology that has brought the entire world into your palm!

This rise in the mobile device and wearable technology has also given rise to a whole new concept and field of responsive website design.

Responsive sites provide seamlessly offer intuitive user experience across all the devices; the site adjusts automatically to varying screen resolutions.  In fact, these smart devices are constantly get upgraded which clearly means that responsive designs are still to stay for very long!!

Since, this trend is going to continue; here are some tips to design a responsive site that increases sales, enhances UI/ & U/X:

Keep ‘Mobile’ in your mind

While designing a web site; designers usually keep screen resolutions of a desktop or laptop. However, the best to create an all-inclusive web page that gives an extraordinary result on all devices (even mobile phones comes in varying sizes). It is estimated that on an average 1 in every 7 person use their mobile devices (even tablets) to access internet to make purchases and check out on products and rates. Therefore, focusing more on how users will interact with your website over their mobile phones first will help you to deliver an unmatched user experience and bringing down the bounce rates.

Know the Media Queries thoroughly

Media queries are a crucial feature in CSS3 that allows the content to react to differing size of various devices. It checks upon the device’s resolution, height, width as well as orientation. It utilizes this information to decide the CSS rules which needs to be applied. Therefore, know the in and out about the media queries, to make the site impeccably good and more responsive.

Know What Mobile Means for Users

People deal with websites differently when they are using a smartphone as compared to desktops and laptops. Use analytics to understand what makes a user visit the website from their phone. They might just want to get some quick tit-bits using the search bar or they might want to gather some information by reading content. If any of the reasons are common among your users, then work accordingly and concentrate on making that particular function more smooth and visible.

Source Order

HTML source order is critical to keep in mind as it usually affects the design when it gets converted to a different width. Like if at a desktop viewport width; the sidebar column with a search field element may appear below the main content. However; on a smaller device it would give a very un-aesthetic look to the site. There are different ways around this where you can use JavaScript, however, it’s always wonderful to make the source order work whenever possible and start to think of various ways in which code structure helps in designing a responsive site.

Responsive websites are one of the sure-shot ways through which you can bring down the bounce rate as well as provide an unmatched user experience which certainly will take you increased sales.

Joomla, WordPress, and Drupal – The “Top Three” Are Getting More Similar

Joomla, WordPress, and Drupal – The “Top Three” Are Getting More Similar

Posted by: Chirag Shivalker | Posted on: October 30th, 2015 | Posted in: Web Design and Development Guide

Are you looking out to select a Content Management System? You might come across thousands of options to choose from, but consider only the Top three – Joomla, WordPress and Drupal, though selecting any one of it – tends to be really difficult.

The “Top Three” are getting more similar

The reason for all of us to rejoice is that these top three have evolved over several years, facilitating developers to learn and unlearn things from and about each other’s expertise. If we consider everything, these top three systems are growing similar to each other, than different.

Time flies by, making them more similar to each other, and developers on all three Content management systems are intensely aware of developments on each other’s front. In fact this competition makes them work consistently to add more features, which ultimately works to your advantage.

I would say; they still have some differences – the ones that you cannot discount.

Joomla

High profile sites including Guggenheim Museum, Porsche Brazil, Cloud.com

Extensions that are divided into components, modules and plugins, are the little programs that add features to Joomla.

Pros:

Powerful yet user-friendly interface; I personally find it to be the best interface amongst the thee, basically for managing large amounts of articles.

If you are sure that your site will have to deal with a lot of articles and, might not need addition of any features – Joomla would certainly work to your favor. Still if you feel you might need to add up some features, seek some professional help for better results.

Cons:

One of the major disadvantages, as it may sound so, is that it’s in the middle of the gamut. WordPress is at the “user friendly – basic tasks made easy” end. Drupal is at the” extensively customizable/first choice for developers/slight learning curve” end.

This means Joomla is at a cross road, as it is not convenient and attractive as WordPress, at the same time it is not the first choice of a lot of developers alike Drupal.

If you know what all and how many features you might need on your website – Joomla is not the option for you. Though; Joomla community has been actively offering tons of modules, they are hard to find and even harder to maintain – these days. Here, I would say WordPress and Drupal steal the show.

WordPress

High profile sites including The New York Observer

Plugins are those little programs that add features in WordPress.

Pros:

If you think that WordPress is only for blogs, I am sure you need to upgrade yourself on this.

WordPress successfully handles specialized content types form multiple authors, and pretty much anything that you as a user would expect from a CMS.

Easy to learn and use, is what makes WordPress legendary. It happens to be your best choice because of its sweet user interface and meets all your website needs – if they are plain vanilla flavor.

Cons:

If you cannot discount heavy customization of your site – Drupal is certainly a better choice.

WordPress developers have all the rights to disagree with me here, especially with more than 15,000 WordPress Plugins, they certainly can.

One thing you need to know here is that, core WordPress program need frequent updates, and these updates can often disturb your existing plugins and hence the site.

Drupal, however; handles this appropriately and on priority – core updates don’t disturb your setup.

Drupal is all equipped to be extended with hundreds of modules.

The only thing that needs serious consideration is to pick up right plugins for your WordPress site.

Drupal

High profile sites including The White House, The Economist

Modules are those little programs that add features

Pros:

Drupal is equipped to do almost anything that you want to do for your website.

Designed specifically to leverage new and several features through modules, Drupal is maintained by professional developers. Some of these modules are available for free today also.

Cons:

Drupal has a reputation of being a challenge for all those who are not programmers. Are you a programmer?

Though the recently released Drupal 7 boasts about improvements for easy usage, it is not as easy as WordPress.

Core Drupal is not that impressive, however; the fun begins once you start adding the modules.

Anticipating a complex site for yourselves, I would suggest you to hire Professional Drupal developers.

Decision Making Time:

I tried articulating, the factors that could and should affect your choice. Please feel free to share your views and opinions in the comments box below.

Whichever CMS you select; the secret is to “keep upgrading”. Coming years promise that the top three will be more user friendly, more powerful and of course – more similar.

We’ve been using both Drupal and WordPress in creating websites for our client needs. Most of our basic/simple websites are created through WordPress and the highly-customized and more complex websites are created through Drupal. This is a proof to the analyses above regarding the pros and cons of both CMS. I just don’t have idea on what’s it about with Joomla for the simple reason that we don’t use it.

How to select Website Design & Development Plan?

How to select Website Design & Development Plan?

Posted by: Rahul Vyas | Posted on: July 8th, 2013

When you go for hiring an agency offering services in website design, you are provided multiple website design plans. Thus, arises a dilemma— which one plan to choose among all?

Below are some considerations that need to be kept in mind:

If you have a static website, always use basic and primary website design and development plan.

If you want to add a few extra functionalities in your website, don’t change your entire plan straight away. Use the additional add-ons while implementing the same plan and pay extra for the add-ons to the agency.

If your plan is to go for a high-end ecommerce website or a huge web portal, then always opt for the last level plan.

If you hail from a non-IT background, try to include web hosting in every plan of yours, if possible.

Always compare different web plans based on your project’s requirements and monetary budget.

Check if you are getting any free add-on with your website plan. For instance basic SEO, testing or web optimization.

Check if the web design and development agency you have hired is charging you page wise?

Never miss out on asking your consultancy if any customized web plan available or included in your web design and development project?

How to Select Website Design?

How to Select Website Design?

Website design is a front-end task. Front-end services are representative of the concerned business you are into. You should thus be extremely careful while designing for your website. While designing keep the following in mind:

Use Creativity as Your Tool to Design: When you sit down for designing don’t just start designing according to the application. First think what you as a designer wish to design for a particular application? What will suit the application? And for what you want to design the application? Answers to these questions will help you choose and design better.

Keep in Mind Your Competitors’ Designs: It is not unethical or illegal, for few might think so, to check and understand how everyone else is doing the same job. Checking out competitor’s website for design is not immoral or wrong. This will give you several ideas of how your web design can be different from other websites designs or how can you go about designing your web pages distinctively from others? What color-combinations would you use for your website? What type of content you would demand from your content writers?

Theme & Design: Before you select the theme for your website, look around and observe. See what can suit your website and don’t just randomly choose a theme. Whatever you choose has to be convincing enough. You should select your theme based on your website subject and content.

All-Browser Compatibility Check: Your website should be built such that it runs in all browsers including Firefox, safari, Google Chrome, and internet explorer.

Use of Content, Images & Video: Images, content and video of the website– all should be your website’s crowd pullers. The quality of the content should be maintained throughout the web pages of the website. ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ holds true for designing and developing of web pages too.

Apt Use of CSS: Cascading Style Sheet is one of the key features of any website design and development process. Do a bit of smart work; select a better website design using the above points and CSS can be used as reusable content.
